Sugar City is excited to present an exhibition pairing two artists who share a similar ideological wavelength; creating work referencing the imagery of the occult, psychedelia, chaos and spiritual enlightenment. Unbeknownst to each other, both artists lived in California between 2009-2013. Perhaps the allure of rock n roll, the magic and mystical history and the psychic draw of Los Angeles, the Coachella Valley, and the High Desert has forged the connection between their works. Mediums range from collage, sculpture and illustration.
Colin Maccubbin is a recent repatriate to WNY and has spent his 20’s living and working in the Los Angeles entertainment industry. As a result of being part of the underground scene, Colin has developed an unbridled art-making practice that draws inspiration from rock n roll, chaos, and devilry.
Florian Ayala Fauna has been part of Buffalo’s experimental art and noise music scene and has presented work at Dreamland and 464 Gallery. Florian’s work is based on the nature of visions as a conduit to connect to a higher realm of spiritual consciousness. This results in a body of beautifully executed work that makes us question our perceived layers of reality. Artist’s website
