Esther Lan is an artist from Buffalo, NY. She is 14 years old and a current freshman at City Honors School. Esther has been drawing since she was very young, and had her first show with her twin sister, Hetta, at Rust Belt Books in May of 2017. Her work has been displayed on the cover of The Public in May 2017, as well as the centerfold in July 2018. She was awarded 1st place for her political cartoon by The Buffalo News in 2017. Esther also won a Celebrating Art! Award from Buffalo Public Schools in May 2017.
Esther Lan works in graphite, colored pencil, and acrylic paint with a focus on portraiture as her subject matter. Her graphite drawings are a mix of photo realism and abstraction. Esther’s acrylic painting series features strange portraits of people with unusual features, colorful skin, and drastic makeup. Her colored pencil works are photorealistic and range in size. They include a number of self portraits, renderings of famous celebrities, and other imagined figures.
