Sugar City Art Gallery is pleased to announce Travis Keller: Windows, an exhibition featuring new paintings by Travis Keller. Windows will be his first solo exhibition; his abstract cityscapes are explorations of his interest in science fiction and dystopian cinema. The paintings are set at a vantage point that allow the viewer to see an infinitely interconnected landscape.

After completing his Fine Art degree at the University of Arkansas’ School of Art in 2015, Keller decided to move to Buffalo while attending the Chautauqua Institution Summer Art program. Since then he has participated in group shows and installed permanent commissioned works in the area. Keller has been a resident artist at Buffalo Arts Studio for over two years, where he has participated in Resident Artist exhibitions, and where he also serves on the Board as a Resident Artist Representative.

Travis Keller was born in Las Vegas, NV; growing up his interests in science fiction and dystopian cinema stemmed from childhood memories of the Vegas strip paired with feelings of alienation and isolation. His paintings employ extreme perspective coupled with an expressionistic painting style, which creates fictional landscapes that ask the viewer to recall places from reality. Hoping to visualize the fragility of social and class structures, his limitlessly stacked living environments balance on the brink of collapse. While the windows are seemingly unobstructed by blinds or curtains, the scenes become abstracted by the presence of overwhelming light. The unseen residents only clear path out of their situation is often an impossible climb.
