Psychonoclasm is a portmanteau of psychoanalysis and iconoclasm. Psychoanalysis is a pseudo psychological philosophy and analysis of that which lies beneath the surface of human behavior. It uses discourse and introspection to unveil and polish difficult and hidden concepts into a narrative, whereas iconoclasm challenges cherished beliefs or institutions. In this exhibition, artists from UB’s MFA program combine these two elements in one manner or another, creating a critical and philosophical art practice. Exhibiting a group MFA exhibition outside of the institutional white walls of UB, this show aims to stimulate your minds and your eyes, uncovering that which lies beneath the surface to challenge your thoughts and beliefs.
