Sugar City prides itself as being organized as a community based venue that is specifically designed to encourage individuals to become music promoters, event organizers and art curators. Unlike most venues, you don’t “get booked” at the Sugar City- you use your creative energy to book yourself! We exist to help, support and provide space to our nice city neighbors by providing an accessible and affordable space and resources to the community.
Artists and curators can express interest in exhibiting in 2 ways:
Gallery Rentals: We provide the space and general support in exchange for a modest $50 per week rental fee. We do not take any commission. This fee includes 4 hours of install assistance, an opening reception, a list of press contacts and gallery hours during scheduled events and Fridays 5:30-7:30PM. We will also consider exchanging 15 volunteer hours or other in-kind donations for gallery use. Hours have to be completed before your show date. Additional gallery hours and other special arrangements can be discussed. The Sugar City Arts Committee will need to review work to make sure it fits within our mission so please send work samples and a brief exhibition proposal.
Selection by Sugar City Arts Committee: The Sugar City Arts committee curates exhibitions through open calls and directly supporting artists whose work members would like to sponsor. Artist and curators can send Sugar City a proposal for consideration and keep an eye out for open call postings. These selected exhibitions are fully managed by Sugar City and the Arts Committee and require no rental fees. The committee meets once a month to review the exhibition schedule and submitted proposals Please note that submitting a proposal does not guarantee you will get use of the space as rentals take priority as they directly support the operating costs of Sugar City.
